The Status Quo

Look at what we’ve become:
a world of hate, ignorance, guns.
Living in lockdown; living in fear,
and old man politics,
‘just give us a year.’
He texted his Mommy.
 “I’m gonna die.”
She could do nothing,
nor could you or I.
We’re helpless because of
some old guy’s vote
dusty laws by quill
words learned by rote.
So we memorialize
hashtag the woe
then go back to our lives:
the status quo.
